Assam’s textile heritage, particularly the handwoven fabrics crafted on traditional looms, reflects the skill, patience, and rich cultural legacy of its artisans. The way these age-old materials and techniques tell stories and offer thoughtful solutions immediately captured our imagination. What began as academic research quickly transformed into an immersive, two-week on-site craft documentation project moving from reading about the crafts to witnessing firsthand the processes, products, and mastery of the artisans in Assam.

/// A journey of transformation told through threads of heritage, Cocoon to Couture explores the poetic evolution of form, identity, and fabric, using the ancient wisdom of Assam’s Muga and Eri silks. From raw, cocoon-like textures to regal silhouettes, each piece mirrors the metamorphosis of both the soul and the silk. The term "cocoon" signifies a protective, nurturing space where transformation happens quietly and gradually, while "couture" represents the art of crafting exquisite, custom-made fashion where this evolution reaches its elegant and refined expression.
